Its a pity to see fellow Indians buying the bull shit being spread around by the self-anointed Patriots claiming to defend the glory of the nation.
To even call a piece of fiction (let alone art) like the Slumdog Millionaire (or SDM)defamatory is to shoot in one's own foot and to see it coming from someone like the great Mr. Bachchan, who I must admit I admire for his acting/entertaining skills, who has done a film as ridiculous and as ourtageous as Boom is a shame.
First things first. Why read so much into what is just a movie ?
Secondly, to call the depiction of India in SDM as untrue or anything else is only an attempt to shy away from the fact that we are a country of diverse lifestyles. To co-exist in such a very diverse society and close your eyes and mouth and expect everyone else to do the same is childish. So is it fine to have slums that are the largest in the world in our own backyard and not fine to someone talking and filming about it ? How narrow minded.
Thirdly, why does everyone else toe to someone else's line of thinking and keep tom-tomming about ? Are we Indians not capable of thinking for ourselves and having our own opinions.
Nevertheless, I did watch the movie and thought it was not all that great to deserve the attention that it is getting now. Can't imagine this film being put on the same plank as Lagaan or for that matter No man's land.
