Maya and a leader.

I am coming from this article here in which the author says:

Her detractors say that she is corrupt, autocratic and casteist, but which party is bereft of these traits? Maya has overcome insurmountable prejudices of caste, gender and class to be a leader If by being in power, she can ensure that the Dalits are more secure, (a police lathi has not beaten a Dalit to pulp since she came to power) employed and get respect and dignity, is that a problem?... Is the Christian feeling more secure today under the BJP coalition government in Orissa?

Interesting view point, isn't it? Well what with providing people with a better means to make a living. I thought that was the duty of a leader in a country as ours that has a sizeable population that hardly gets to ear twice a day.

Maybe I was wrong. If being corrupt like others, autocratic like others, casteist like others but claiming to represent a different set of people is qualification enough then I am pretty sure we can go nowhere from where we are.

And that is all Maya can be, a namesake leader with a position of power.
