Government mulls reform to IIT admissions

2:58 AM by admin · 2 comments

In a major change proposed to be brought into the system of admissions to IITs, the government plans to raise the qualifying marks in Class XII from 60% to 80 or 85%. This is being done with an intention to check the 'mushrooming' of coaching centres and also to encourage students to take Class XII exams seriously.

Under the current system students join coaching centres many years in advance to writing their IIT-JEE entrance and toil at the coaching centres, taking the Class XII exams easy. The government wants to change that system and wants to give more weightage to the Class XII marks as well. A committee has been formed to examine the possibilities. (LINK)

i m from kota. this decision is very respectable and should be executed due to:
1.coaching classes are making their own money and are not concerned with the career of the students.
2.only few students are able to get profit from coaching studies rest all spoil their career. a decrease in 12th class marks is seen among students studying in kota
3.students indulge in forming groups and indulge in criminal activity. recently a group in kota was responsible for a murder.
4.also students learn to smoke and drink.
5.public of kota and and coaching classes are charging high rates for their services.
6.parents spend money on their child's career while children are in 11th and 12th.
6.children do not go to school and schools provide attendance and even award makrs in 11th in a fake manner. schools charge full-one-time fees.
7.spoonfeeding is provided by the coaching classes and thus the new iitians are not capable enough.
DO NOT GET OVEREXCITED BY THE ADVERTISEMENTS OF COACHING CLASSES. THEY R ALL MAKING YOU FOOL. THE REAL FACT IS SOMEWHAT STRANGE.
A PERSON WHO IS CAPABLE OF CRACKING IIT ENTRANCE IS CAPABLE OF GETTING 80% IN 12TH
PARENTS BEWARE

Hi Anish,

I do not think that this decision should be made on any other grounds than for purely educational reasons.

I understand though that you are against the mushrooming of coaching centres and when you say you are from Kota I can guess the reasons behind your dislike of the present system.

Today Nitish Kumar raised a valid point on the same issue.
